Richie Graduates highschool, and unlike his friends, he is interested in joining the military over in Vietnam. He enlists. -
Richie Boards the plane for Vietnam
Richie leaves his hometown of Chicago, by boarding the plane to go overseas. -
Befriends Harold Peewee
When Richie arrives, he befriends another teenager from Alabama. His name is Harold Peewee, and they are grouped together in a squad. They become best friends. -
Death of Squad member: Jenkins
Jenkins, a soldier in Richie's squad is killed by a land mine. It really scares Richie, and makes him change his mind about being a soldier. -
Sergaent Simpson gets sent back to the U.S.
Segaent Simpson, the leader of Richie's unit is sent home and replaced by a rascist. Simpson always was there for his squad, and risked his life for other soldiers. Richie and Harold don't know what to think with the rascist leader coming in. -
Rascism between the squad
The rascist leader, Sergaent Dongon purposely places the black soldiers in very dangerous war zones. Richie and Harold are placed in the very front, only 100 yards from the enemy. Richie has just about had enough of the unfair treatment. -
Death of Sargaent Dongon
The rascist Sargaent was shot and killed. Numbers now lacking in Richie's unit, Corporal Brunner now takes over. -
Mission versus Vietnamese Guerilla forces
Corporal Brunner leads his unit to a war with North Vietnamese Guerilla forces. It takes place along a river. -
Errors lead to many soldiers misfortune
Corporal Brunner isn't experienced as a leader, and makes many mistakes and miscalculations. The war against the guerilla squad backfires and turns into a fire fight. Richie and Harold are both badly injured. -
Discharged from Vietnam
Richie and Peewee are both injured badly wounded following the fire fight a few days before. Both are badly wounded enough to be discharged and sent back to the United States. -
The last goodbye
Richie and Peewee arrive at the departure zone in Vietnam where all the new recruits meet. Both of them are still severely injured, but they try their best to stand tall and stay postitive for the new recruits. Both men went their seperate ways when they arrived back in the U.S.
