  • Stalin's death

    Stalins death changed the Soviet Union a lot. After his death nikita khrushchev came to power. Nikita was the creator of destalnization.

  • Chinese and Soviet Treaty

    Stalin had a 30-year peace treaty with China. But in 1959 Khrushchev ended it.

  • The Soviets retreat.

    Khrushchev retreats from the Cuban Missle Crisis. He does this avoid having a nuclear war.

  • The struggle over Satellite Nations

    The soviets were struggling over satellite nations because they were demanding freedom. The Soviets created a Warsaw pact and then invaded Czechslovakia. Czechslovakia was one of these satellite nations.

  • Leonid Brezhnev

    Lenid Brezhnev comes to power after the fall of khrushchev. He was tough against satellite nations but was a better leader for the USSR.

  • SALT agreement

    The Soviets and the US finally agreed to something together. SALT was a peace treaty after the Cuban Missle Crisis. It was a 5 year peace agreement to lower the amount of nuclear weapons.

  • Afghanistan War

    The afghanistan war between the Mujihedeens, the US and the Soviet Union.

  • Ronald Reagan

    Reagan was a US president that stopped the SALT treaty with USSR. After he did this he did this he ignored all communist countries.

  • Soviet influence.

    The soviets tried gaining influence in the eaast but it didnt end well. The Soviets ended up losing some allies.

  • Afghanistan War

    On Febuary 1989 the afghanistan war ended. The soviets retreated from afghanistan. The people of Soviet Union were mad at khrushchev for retreating because it made them look weak.

    The fall of the berlin wall was where there were the wall broke down tat divides east germany and west germany. This means there was no longer a west and east germany.

  • Gorbachev

    When gorbachev came to power he made a lot of changes. He made some changes to the policies of the USSR. A year later yeltsin took over after the fall of the soviet union.

  • Democratic Russia

    Gorbchev allowed people to own small buisnesses. Beung able to own is capitalism. This led to the fall of the Soviet Union.

  • Glasnost

    Glasnost meant openess. Glasnost allowed people in USSR to speak up to there goverment. This made more changes to USSR.

  • reunifaction.

    On october 3, 1990, reunifacation occured. This was the rebuilding of czechsloavakia.

  • Perestroika

    Perestroika was a small piece of capitalism. This was the restructuring of the soviet economy. This allowed people to create and own small businesess.

  • Soviets foriegn policy

    Gorbachev began to work on foreign support and he enouraged other communist countries to do this aswell.

  • Declaring of indepemdence

    Satellite nations are trinng to declare there independence. The soviets are still fighting to stay communst.

  • Fall of Sovet Union

    Communist russia collapses. Russia is now a Capitalist and democratic country.

  • Yeltsin

    Hardliners tried to stop Yeltsin from coming to power. The wanted life like stalin back. They failed in trying to come back to this life and Yeltsin comes to power.

    The august coup was the time period when the hardliners tried to get life back to stalin.

  • Yeltsins problems

    Yeltsin had many problems at this time. The economy was down and they have just changed to a capitalist country.

  • Shock Therapy

    Shock Terapy was where yeltsin changed a command economy to a free market economy. He thought his would help there econmy.

  • Economy

    The econmy was bad and people were facing many problems. Inflation occured, and also unemployment.

    Shock therapy fails. Russia has a bad economy. Taxes are raised and major inflation occurs.
