Pax Romana and the Roman Empire begins
In 27 B.C.E. "Pax Romana" or Roman Peace started. During this time the Roman Empire started to improve the infrastructure by building roads, bridges, and aquaducts. The empire expanded and trade improved increasing the wealth of the empire, arts and literature flourished as well, there were also series of good leaders. At this time Augustus Caesar had ruled. -

Julius Caesar comes and the Roman Empire begins
After the republic declined Julius Caesar comes and he demands that the Roman Senate appoints him dictator. The Romans weren't too fond of that so some senates and closest friends made a plan to assasinate him. On March 15th, 44 B.C.E., Julius Caesar was stabbed to death. -

Mark Antony and Octavian
After Julius Caesar was assasinated Mark Antony became ruler. But only one thing was wrong, he fell in love with Cleopatra. Him and Cleopatra wanted to join forces and create the greatest empire in the world but Octavian didn't like this. Soon enough civil war broke out and Octavian defeats Mark Antony in a struggle for power, taking on the title of Augustus Caesar. -

Roman Republic
In 509 B.C.E., the Romans drove out the Etruscans and set up a new government called a republic. In the early Roman Republic, the senate dominated the government. There were two groups of people at the time too: the patricians or member of the landholding class and the plebians or the common people, this group included free slaves, peasant farmers, and dependents of the patricians. Tribunes are officials chosen by the plebians, tribunes have the right to veto harmful laws. -

Marcus Aurelius
Marcus Aurelius starts to rule, he was the last of the 5 good emperors. He unified the Roman Empire economically and spent most of his time putting down rebellions and fighting off invasions. -

Diocletian
After the 50 years of decline Diocletian took control. He knew that the empire was much to large so he split the Easter Roman Empire and the Western Roman Empire. To help him rule he hired a co-emperor to rule the Western Roman Empire. Diocletian ruled the Eastern Roman Empire since it was wealthier. Diocletians rule slowed down the decline but it didnt stop it. After his death a civil war was ensured since he hadn't named a succesor. -

Constantine
In 306 B.C.E. Christianity was still around, Constantine was the ruler. Constantine's army was weak and out numbered so he was not convinced that he would win the Battle of the Milvean Bridge. At this time Christians were persecuted. But then Constantine saw a sign in the sky that meant "under this sign you shall conquer" and was convinced the Christian god sent the message. He put the sign he saw on his men's shields and came out of battle victorious, he then converted to Christianity. -

Edict of Milan
On 313 Constantine signed the Edict of Milan, a contract that granted Christians the freedom to worship and strongely encouraged the spread of Christianity. -

Capital of the Roman Empire
On 330 C.E. Constantine moved the capital of the Roman Empire from Rome to Byzantine and renamed it Constantinople. He did this so the Roman Empire could gain more wealth because it was close to a common trade route called the silk road where silk, perfume, spices, linen, cloth and other items of much value. Since their trade was so abundant they had a healthier economy and had defended borders. -

The Roman Empire falls in 476 C.E. German tribes, also known as Barbarians occupied the Western territories and the east morphed into the Byzantine Empire. -
Commodus
Marcus Aurelius dies, before his death he chose his son, Commodus to follow him a emperor. Commodus only wanted to be emperor for the wealth and fame. He spent most of the empire's wealth on circuses and entertainment. When the wealth of the empire decreased he killed the wealthy citizens and took their money. -
Roman Empire starts to crumble
After Commodus's rule the Roman Empire started to crumble. The fight for leader sent the empire into 50 years of decline. There was a series of very bad emperors from then on. The christian religion started to clash with polytheism, so Nero set Rome on fire and blamed it on the christians; christian began to get persecuted. -
Commodus's assasination
At first his sister had plotted to kill him, but she failed, some officials had also plotted to kill him and succeeded. On 12/13 192 C.E. Commodus was assasinated
