    President Nguyen Van Thieu of South Vietnam resigned, saying to the United States, "You ran away and left us to do the job that you would not do".

    Communist troops take over the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon. This ends the Vietnam war as afterwards the South Vietnamese surrendered.

    Pol Pot's forces take Lon Nol, which starts the series of events that ends with Pol Pot having control over Cambodia.

  • Khmer Rouge violence peaks

    At this point, the Khmer Rouge is emptying the cities and forcing the urban population to become rice farmers. The Khmer Rouge also begins border raids on Vietnam.

    The genocide in Cambodia is ended when Vietnamese forces drive out the Khemer Rouge and Pol Pot from Cambodia.
