    Black Codes
    The Black Codes were laws made to help control the newly freed African American slaves. African Americas were now allowed to own or rent farms. The down fall was that the new laws made it easy for white employers to take advantage of the African Americans.
  • Civil Right Acts of 1866

    Civil Right Acts of 1866
    The law gave the federal government power to protect the African Americans. This was want to be lawed because the Supreme Court ruled African American not citizens. Both of the bills got vetoed by President Johnson.
  • Reconstruction Acts

    Reconstruction Acts
    Reconstruction acts made the ten form confederate states in to five military districts governed by army generals. The act guaranted African Amercian men the right to be able to vote. Also, allowed the army to register voters.
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    The 14th amendment stated, "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and sudject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." This means that people born in the United States are considered U.S citizens. The amendment made it so each person was entitled to equal protection over the law.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment
    The 15th amendment made that any male citizen could vote and could not be denied the right to vote because of color or race. The republicans believed that allowing the African Americans to vote would better protect themfrom unfair white people. This made it easier for the African Americans to vote for who they want in the office.
