Abraham born

2000 BCE

Abraham was born in Ur in the land of the Chaldees. Abraham’s father took him, his wife Sarah, and his nephew Lot, and they went to Haran, a city that is located in Turkey.

Abraham & Sarah arrive in Canaan

1925 BCE

As Abraham and Sarah entered Canaan, they stopped at one of the first cities they would've encountered, Sichem or Shechem.

Sarah gives birth to Isaac

1900 BCE

Then the Lord took note of Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had promised. So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him. Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

Rebekah gives birth to Jacob & Esau

1836 BCE

Rebekah give birth to twin boys in her womb. The first to come out was red and his hairy so they named him Esau. After this, his brother came out, grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.

Israelites settle in Egypt

1500 BCE

The Israelites settled in egypt on the region of Goshen and they were fertile and increased greatly now Joseph and Judah and all of the israelites are in peace and egypt is strong and prosperous

Moses leads the Exodus from Egypt

1290 BCE

God sent Moses back to Egypt to demand the release of the Israelites from slavery. After the Ten Plagues, Moses led the Exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt and across the Red Sea, after which they based themselves at Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments.

Joshua invades Canaan with the Israelites.

1200 BCE

Moses died, so God told Joshua to get ready with all the people of Israel, and cross the Jordan River into the land that he would give to them.

Judges (Deborah, Samson, etc) lead Israelites in Canaan.

1144 BCE

Joshua lead the Israelites into canaan after Moses died.

Saul is named 1st king of Israel.

1020 BCE

Saul's life and reign are described in the Hebrew Bible. He was anointed by the prophet Samuel and reigned from Gibeah. He fell on his sword (committing suicide) to avoid capture in the battle against the Philistines at Mount Gilboa, during which three of his sons were also killed.

King David names Jerusalem as the capital.

1000 BCE

He established Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, choosing a place that Jacob called the gate of heaven.

King Solomon builds the Temple.

970 BCE

The temple was constructed under King Solomon the temple was dedicated to Yahweh and is said to have housed the covenant then the temple was burnt.

Kingdom divides into Israel and Judah.

930 BCE

On the succession of Solomon's son, Rehoboam, around 930 BCE, the biblical account reports that the country split into two kingdoms; the Kingdom of Israel(including the cities of Shechem and Samaria) in the north and the Kingdom of Judah (containing Jerusalem) in the south.

Time of the prophet Amos.

755 BCE

Amos was one of the Twelve Minor Prophets. An older contemporary of Hosea and Isaiah, Amos was active c. 760–755 BCE during the reign of Jeroboam II (786–746 BCE). He was from the southern Kingdom of Judah but preached in the northern Kingdom of Israel.

Assyrians conquered Israel.

721 BCE

The assyrians took over Israel and the ruler's son was responsible for finishing the demise of Israel's kingdom

Babylonians conquer Judah.

587 BCE

Pharaoh Necho at the Battle of Carchemish subsequently invaded Judah.

Persians allow Jews to return to Judah.

530 BCE

After the Jews had spent seventy years in Babylonian Captivity, Cyrus, king of Persia, issued a decree permitting them to return to their homeland

Greeks conquer Holy Land.

332 BCE

The Jews knew they couldn't defeat alexander so they decided they would try to come up with an accommodation. He agreed as long as the Jews would be loyal and pay their taxes and the jews decided they would name all their first kids that year Alexander

Maccabees revolt against Greeks.

160 BCE

A rural Jewish priest from Modiin, Mattathias the Hasmonean, sparked the revolt against the Seleucid Empire by refusing to worship the Greek gods.

Romans conquer Holy Land

63 BCE

After a civil war had broken out in the land of Israel between Pharisees and Sadducees, a Roman general named Pompey arrived and helped the Pharisees defeat the Sadducees in Jerusalem. Then, Rome helped itself to the land of Israel, incorporating it into the Roman Empire.

Jesus is born

5 BCE

Jesus was born in a stable in bethlehem because when Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem they couldn't get into an inn. The three shepherds followed the star and brought him gifts.
