The Evolution of Facebook (META)

  • Idea among many.

    Mark Zuckerberg, a college sophomore at Harvard University had an idea. He wanted to create a way for college students to socialize and match pictures with names. With the help of his college roommates The Facebook was created in 2004. By the next year, the site renamed just Facebook became accessible to those thirteen and older. (GCF Global, 2018, para. 1).

    The same idea.

    In 2004, CEO Mark Zuckerberg was sued by twin brothers, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. The brothers believed that Zuckerberg had stolen their idea for the making of Facebook. The three were able to settle with mediation and the brothers were awarded $65 million dollars in the suit. (Mezrich, 2019).
  • New Features.

    By 2006, Facebook gained popularity among teens and adults alike. By September of that year, Facebook rolled out new features such as the news feed which aloud you to see what your Facebook friends were posting and the mini-feed which showcased information like what you had recently added to your own Facebook page. (Grove, 2014).
  • Just keep Growing.

    By 2008, Facebook had over a hundred million users. New features had been upgraded and added such as the inbox and News feed. Both allowed you another look into your friends daily lives and another way to communicate with them. (Grove, 2014).

    In 2021, the company Facebook became a parent company. META also known as the META verse, was created to give the company a more elegant name and link their many companies together.
  • The Future of Facebook (META)

    As Facebook ( META) continues to advance and influence the daily lives of the people around the world, We must ask ourselves how it continues to be such an contemporary part of American society. It allows us to venture into the life of our family and friends. We are able to step out of our comfort zones and experience new things. That is the power of social media as a whole. As for Facebook, I am eager to see what it has instore for us over the next twenty years.
