    Montag is in disbelief after realizing that the firemen were going to set his house on fire.

    Mildred runs from the house with a small suitcase and is picked up by a beetle-taxi.

    Montag sees his books sprawled out on the floor by the broken glass in his house. He realizes that Mildred probably brought them in from their hiding place in the garden.

    While talking with Beatty Faber encourages Montag to run. He tells Faber he can't because the mechanical hound will get him.

    Beatty has Montag burn his own house. He says, "your house, your cleanup".

    Montag asks Beatty who turned in the alarm on him and discovers that his wife and her friends were the ones to blame.
  • Event 7

    Beatty tries to ask Montag why he really did it but Montag is off in his own world. Beatty hits Montag to get his attention, knocking the bullet out of his ear.

    Montag sneaks into Mr. and Mrs. Black's house. Here, he hides a book and quickly leaves. Once he is down the road, he calls the tip line and tells the fire department that the Black's are guilty of having books. The firemen soon arrive at their house.

    After arriving at the river Montag disguises himself and gets in. He drifts down the river for as long as necessary to get outside of the city. Once on land, Montag notices people standing around a fire.

    Granger tells Montag about the phoenix and how it is reborn again and again. The men continue traveling.
  • Event 10

    On his way to Faber's house, Montag is chased by a car full of reckless children. Almost being hit, he falls to the ground, the car continues on. Montag soon realizes that the car is coming back and he is a target so he runs and hides in an alley.

    Montag makes a brief appearance at Faber's house to hide from the mechanical hound. Faber gives Montag a small television to see the chase on and tells him that he'll be leaving town. Montag instructs Faber to take certain to precautions to get rid of any trace that Montag was there. Montag soon leaves and runs to the river.

    Montag soon learns that each of the people in the camp have memorized books (and then burnt them) as to not get in trouble if they are ever searched for some. Montag says that he only knows parts of the Bible but he is reassured that that is okay.
  • Event 16

    Event 16
    The men see jets overhead and see them heading toward the city. Montag, remembering Mildred is back there told Granger that he wouldn't cry if she died. Granger tells Montag that when his grandfather died, he cried not for him but for the things he did in the world and how different it was without him. A bomb is dropped on the city. All Montag can think about is the fact that Mildred didn't do anything with her life.

    After finding the bullet, Beatty threatens to trace the bullet to Faber. This angers Montag so much that he kills Beatty with the flame thrower.

    Montag runs and is attacked by the mechanical hound who numbs his leg. Montag kills the hound, grabs the remaining books from his yard, heads to Faber's house.
  • Event 14

    Event 14
    Montag introduces himself to the group of intellectuals and other outsiders that live in the country. The men recognize him from the chase and tell him that he should watch closely because they are about to kill him. Confused, Montag sees a man running and then shot down, the announcer declares that Montag is dead. Granger explains that they must do this to keep the people entertained.
