Introduction
The reader is given description of what it means to be a fireman in this world. Our main character Montag, views it as a good job. Firemen burn books to preserve social order. Only comics, fast media, and other cheap entertainment are permitted in this world. -

Clarisse
Montag meets Clarisse, a seventeen year old who asks him if he's happy, she reminds Montag of the natural world, a piece of life that is shut out by the current way of society. -

Mildred
Mildred, Montag's wife overdoses on pills. The doctors who talk to Montag about this are extremely casual in their reporting. They pump her stomach and replace her blood. Mildred survives. -

Book thief
Montag comes across a woman who burns herself with her books, she would rather die than fall into the societal entertainment system. Afterwards, he begins to question his career and the sentiment that books warp your brain. Montag ends up stealing twenty books from houses he is set to burn. He hides the books in his air conditioning crate. -

Clarisse's death
Mildred informs Montag that Clarisse (who lived next door to them) was killed by a car. Mildred's apathy and the circumstances of life inspire Montag to search for further fulfillment. -

The Upset
Montag tries to include Mildred's friends in his book collection, one of them starts crying and they get mad at Montag.This leads to him getting reported. -

Beatty and the Alarm
After Mildred calls an alarm on Montag for the books. He is forced to burn down his house, as he does so, Beatty talks to him. Montag turns his flame thrower on Beatty and kills him. This makes Montag a wanted fugitive. -

Escape
Montag recieves help from Faber to escape the city and change his scent (so that the hound will have trouble tracking him). He heads down a river and train tracks to find people who perserve their memory through books. -

The Innocent
Montag finds out that the government killed an innocent man they claimed to be Montag as a show of power. -

Atomics
Atomic bomb is dropped on the city, representing the end of the former corrupt society
