Eya (Industry versus Inferiority)

  • Eya's first art competition

    Eya's first art competition
Eya (age 8) enjoyed painting and wanted to show her art work with other artists. She wanted to join an art contest in her school but she doubt her skills and capabilities as an artist. In Erikson's fourth stage, industry versus inferiority, the crisis is being confident (competent) to show your talent or be timid (inferior).

    Eya in her late 40's
Eya never joined any art competitions. She continued painting but was hesitant to share her artwork with anyone. Looking at her paintings now, she realized how talented and gifted she is. In Erikson's eight stage of ego integrity versus despair, the crisis is between accomplishments (ego integrity) and regret wishing to turn back time and start all over again but understand that it is impossible (despair).
