    Civil Rights Movement

    The Civil Rights Movement was a movement that used non-violent resistance to end segregation, Jim Crow laws, discrimination, racism, and etc. One of the most iconic role models was Martin Luther King Jr. He didn't give up without a fight and he fought for justice and equal rights for all African Americans. Rosa Parks was also an African American who fought to end segregation on public transportation. Rosa refused to sit at the back of a bus & her arrest began the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
  • Cesar Chavez-NFWA

    Cesar Chavez-NFWA
    Cesar Chavez was the most famous leader for the rights of Hispanic American laborers. He formed the National Farm Workers Association also known as the United Farm Workers of America. He was inspired by MLK to start this movement and he also used non-violent tactics and boycotts to get justice for Hispanic farm/migrant workers. The UFW’s efforts were also successful and led to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • *Letter from Birmingham

    This letter was also one of the most social events of this time period as well. MLK's purpose was to respond to local clergyman who judged and criticized his practices, opinions, ideas, strategies, and etc. This crucial document in the Civil Rights Movement was an open door that led straight to the Civil Rights Legislation and most importantly the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

    *I Have a Dream Speech
    One of the most prominent events of socially of the Civil Rights Movement. The icon figure, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a speech "I Have A Dream to a huge group of civil rights protesters and marchers. This speech is highly important because Dr. King's speech wanted to bring awareness about racial discrimination and to say that ALL PEOPLE are created equal. He wanted us as a community to work together, peacefully and righteously to stop racial inequality, end racism, and make a CHANGE!
  • Delano Table Grape Movement/Strike

    Delano Table Grape Movement/Strike
    Chavez and the UFW led the Delano Table Grape Strike to provide rights for Hispanic farm laborers. They also wanted a raise in income (hourly wages & the piece rate). The strike was a notable movement and was similar to African American protests and strikes. Cesar and the UFW also established boycotts of farm goods produced on farms that discriminated against workers and businesses.
