Exposition
Keith Hutchinson or Hutch [What his friends call him] loves to play baseball. Shortstop is like second nature to him because that is where he has played ever since he was little. But soon he would be moved to second base because of the new former player Darryl Williams who is said to be the best baseball player in all of the state. But, Hutch was okay playing next to Darryl even though he was moved to another position. The weather outside was fairly nice so Hutch was in a good mood. -
Setting
The Boynton Beach Post 226 Cardinals was the baseball team Hutchinson played on, it was in South Florida where the setting was located at. The 17-year-old and under team was in a Regional Tournament competing to get the State Championship in Florida that year. Because it is Summer and in Florida, it is humid and hot there, which is the the usual weather the Cardinals usually play in a so Hutchinson has a neutral mood, but still a bit nervous because the game is on the line. GO-BIG or GO-HOME. -
Rising Action
Hutchinson had made TV when the played the Naples and won 6-5, the next morning Hutchinson woke up to find himself on everyone is talking about him saying how he is a star all over SportsCenter. When this happens, Darryl is giving Hutch a hard time about being on TV and all, which in my opinion he is very jeluous of Hutch at the moment. The sun is bright and sunny and even though Darryl is jeluous of Hutch, Keith is still very happy. -
Suspense
By this point in the book Darryl is jeluous of Hutch in a big way. Because this is their chance to get on the path to the major leagues Darryl Williams wants to prove he is better and is the superstar of the team. After both Hutch and Darryl collide trying to get the last out of the game, Hutch ends out getting the ball and leaves Williams moaning. So not only now is Darryl jeluous of Hutch, he is also very mad at him. The weather doesnt really affect anything in this point of the book. -
Internal Conflict
Hutch was in the papers again, The Sun-Sentinel this time, the big paper in Fort Lauderdale. His stomach drops and tells his mom that this is going to make Williams hate him even more than he already has. The weather was usual like always but it wasnt the weather that made him mad when he came to the field it was something else. -
External Conflict
Darryl isnt the only one that Hutchinson is mad at. It is also his dad, yes the one who never talks or has a relationship with Keith. To make matters worse his dad is hanging out with Darryl! Not once has he helped Hutch, and yet the person who hates Hutch is being taught inner field lessons and catching tips. This makes Keith Hutchinson mad, worse than how Darryl is mad at Keith. The weather is nuetral to Keithb but, Hutch's mood is not sunny and bright, it is the exact opposite of that. -
Climax
After the practice, Keith's dad take Keith to the golf couse to get his mind off the incident that morning. Himim and his father start to have a conversation and talk about why Hutch's dad never coached one of Keith's teams and his father told him that he doesn't want Hutch falling down the same path his father did. The weather is fairly nice just like how it always is in Southern Florida and this affects Keith's feelings in a way. -
Falling Action
Because Keith got into a fight with Darryl, Keith had to sit on the bench for the semi-final game[This is the last game to the Championship]. He was not happy being suspended even though they one going to play in the State Championship. Daryl ended up being the super star that game after hitting a homerun on the changeup the second pitch th pitcher threw to him. The weather had no affected Keith at this part of the book. -
Denouement
This was the championship game of Florida and the Cardinals were playing the Pedros, they all took part in winning the game for the team. But, Darryl won the game for the team with a walkoff homerun. This truly was the best summer that Keith has had. The weather was warm and humid just like gow it has been the whole book and it brought a big smile to Keith's face. -
Theme
Keith found that baseball gave him a closer relationship to his dad. He also learns that his father can coach a baseball game and led them to the Championship Title over the Pedros. The night is just like any day, warm and nice in South Florida, Keith is in a good mood
