The minister saw the need for the NCS Policy to be reviewed as there were complaints revolving around it, such as curriculum overload. Timetoast -
The task team submitted recommendations the minister of basic education. The minister of basic education approved the recommendations
Long term recommendations 1. Reduced number of subjects in the intermediate phase 2. English teaching compulsory from Grade 1 and English teaching prioritization 3. Mathematics, Home language and English First Additional Language (EFAL) regular external assessments in Grades 3,6 and 9. 4. Development of National Curriculum and Assessment Policy documents per learning area and subject, (DBE, 2009)Timetoast -
Implementation of approved recommendations
Short term recommendations 1.Discontinuation of learner portfolio files. 2.Requirements for a single teacher file for planning the number of learning areas in the intermediate and senior phase should be reduced. 3.Reduction of the number of projects required from learners 4.The discontinuation of Common Tasks of Assessments (CTAs), (DBE, 2009). -
