    The time period spanning from 1800 to about 1850 was a big time for the United States. The primary focus of this time period was establishing the United States. Expansion was a big part and is the reason why our country is so big today.

    The Election of 1800 was between two candidates: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. The election took place between Friday, October 31 to Wednesday, December 3, 1800. Thomas Jefferson won by 8 more electoral votes then John Adams resulting in a total of 73 electoral votes.
  • Jefferson's Inauguration

    Jefferson's Inauguration
    Thomas Jefferson was the Third President of the United States. He was the first be inaugurated in the new capital of the United States, Washington, D.C. The inauguration took place in a wing of the senate.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase was signed into effect on April 30, 1803. The purchase was a deal between the United States and France. This allowed for the United States to purchase 827,000 square miles of land which was west of the Mississippi River for $15 million.
  • The Second War for American Independence

    The Second War for American Independence
    The War of 1812 was the a second war for independence. The United States fought against the British and many Indian allies. This war was the first war with Britain after battles back and forth for 20 years.
  • The Trail of Tears (Indian Removal)

    The Trail of Tears (Indian Removal)
    During the years of 1838 and 1839, President Andrew Jackson created an Indian Removal Policy. This policy forced the Cherokee tribe to move from their native lands east of the Mississippi and migrate to present day Oklahoma. The effects on the Indian people were big as the migration caused lots of illness and many Indian's died.
  • The Mexican-American War

    The Mexican-American War
    The Mexican-American War was the first war that was armed by the U.S. that was on foreign soil. The war was a conflict based on the United States idea of "Manifest Destiny." The United States wanted to spread across the continent all the way to the pacific ocean. The war lasted from Apr 25, 1846 – Feb 2, 1848.
