Evolution of Web Tools

  • WEB 1.0

    This was the beginning of the internet revolution, where people could read information from the Web. The link between pages used hyperlinks and was a read only type application. Examples: Company Websites, encyclopedias, personal pages, and directories to name a few.
  • WEB 2.0

    In the 2nd generation of Web tools, this was the age of personal connections. The focus was on user friendly applications to be able to communicate with anyone anywhere. Examples are: Facebook, blogging, hotel booking and rating, and the of Google for information.
  • WEB 3.0

    Now is the age we live in, where everything is at our fingertips. Readily available information and communication at anytime from anywhere. This is an extension of the Web 2.0. Examples are: Twitter, Snapchat, live streaming, and using widgets.
  • WEB 4.0

    In the next generation of Web tools, we could see the use of technology more on a personal level of use. Connections to people anywhere will become more like a real life exchange. Examples may include: Simulations, virtual reality, more gaming technology, or apps that know exactly what you want from patterns in your life.
