    First Issue of Vogue
The first ever issue of Vogue was published in New York in December of 1892. In the late 1890s, Vogue was primarily focused on fashion and social affairs. Vogue magazine was primed for the wealthy women and men living in New York at this time, with topics covering common leisure activities and places to go. Fashion, however, was at the heart of Vogue.

Take a Jump to the 50s
In the 1950s, Vogue was still a magazine mainly about clothing, makeup, and accessories. As seen in this photo, Vogue during this time published relatively unedited photos of women, with the exception of makeup of course. However, one can look at this photo and see an authentic women with a light makeup look that is achievable to the general public.
  • For the Women of the 70s

For the Women of the 70s
In the 1970s, Vogue brought in a new editor-in-chief who wanted to inspire change in the message Vogue was giving to its readers. Instead of simply focusing on clothes, they wanted to spread of message of how women could truly change their lives. The magazine is now being directed to the free, working women of the 70s instead of just the wealthy.
  • Revolutionary 80s

    Revolutionary 80s
The late 1980s had a revolutionary moment for Vogue magazine. Up until this point in time, Vogue was mainly including high fashion in their magazines. However, a new editor-in-chief published a rogue cover in 1988 of a model a couture shirt with jeans. This was considered a mixing of the high and low fashion standards.
  • A Look at the 90s

    A Look at the 90s
In the 90s, Vogue continued on the train of not so much focusing on high fashion. In this 1990 publication, a famous designer is being put in the spotlight by Vogue for his own methods of making clothes. His method was that of minimalism, which appeals to a broader range of readers rather than the more typical high fashion, overly expensive clothing generally put on blast.
  • A New Century

    A New Century
Vogue magazine slowly but surely began to focus on women's bodies instead of just their faces in the 90s. Publications from Vogue in the 2000s shows this rising emphasis on what female bodies should look like. The 2000s were also the start of the Digital Age, which allowed for way more women to be exposed to the Vogue magazine.
  • The Mid 2000s

    The Mid 2000s
The 2000s were a time filled with iconic movies, the rise of new, highly adored actors and actresses, and of course iconic fashion. Vogue at this time published features of many celebrities and icons of the time, which I imagine brought even greater popularity to the magazine. The 2000s were an iconic time for popular culture, and Vogue magazine played a significant role for keeping average men and women informed.

Although Vogue continued to publish very feminine fashion, they also included some out of the ordinary publications such as this one. With this more sci-fi, masculine look, Vogue spreads positive messages about women being strong and how power is beauty. During this time, Vogue began to highlight women in a greater way than just how beautiful one is.
