Romans created road networks to link their cities and expand their empire. Soldiers and the elite traveled for pleasure and stayed in huge palaces and thermal baths just like the greeks did a long ago The decline of the Roman Empire caused the degeneration of the road they made. Traveling became dangerous, expensive and difficult -

Later, the man started traveling to learn more about new cultures, Since XII century, educational and discover trips to achieve self realization were common A man named Marco Polo wrote a book about the journeys he made to Europe to Asia. And James Cook made trips to Australia and the South Pacific region all the way to Hawaii -

Discovery of America by Columbus
In August 1492, Columbus left southern Spain with three ships: Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. On October 12, after weeks at sea, the ships reached an island in the Bahamas. Columbus named this island San Salvador. He thought it was an island of India, so he called the people "Indians". Columbus next sailed farther into the Caribbean, reaching Cuba where he saw people smoking tobacco. Then he sailed back to Spain. The King and Queen gave Columbus many honors.

Grand Tour
The Grand Tour, was a traditional trip of Europe invented by James cook undertaken by upper-class young European men of sufficient means and rank when they had come of age.
The ancestor of modern tourism, the custom-which flourished from about 1660 until the advent of large- scale rail transport in the 1840s and was associated with a standard itinerary-served as an educational rite of passage. -

First trip around the world
The first voyage of James Cook was a combined Royal Navy and Royal Society expedition to the south Pacific Ocean aboard HMS Endeavour, from 1768 to 1771. It was the first of three Pacific voyages of which Cook was the commander. The aims of this first expedition were to observe the 1769 transit of Venus across the Sun (3–4 June of that year), and to seek evidence of the postulated Terra Australis Incognita or "unknown southern land". -
First airplane flight
On December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright made four brief flights at Kitty Hawk with their first powered aircraft. The Wright brothers had invented the first successful airplane. -
First solo transatlantic flight
In the early morning of Friday, 20 May 1927, Charles Lindbergh took off from Roosevelt Field, Mineola, New York, on his successful attempt to fly nonstop from New York to the European continental land mass. Over the next 33.5 hours, Lindbergh and the his airplane encountered many challenges before landing at Le Bourget Airport near Paris, France, at 10:22 p.m. on Saturday, 21 May 1927, completing the first solo crossing of the Atlantic. -

Pan Am first commercial flight
On Aug. 15, 1958, Pan Am took delivery of the United States' first commercial jet airliner, a Boeing 707-120, and began plans for Oct. 26, 1958, when Pan Am and the 707 would make history by inaugurating the first 707 service and the first daily transatlantic jet service from New York to Paris. -

First Boeing 747 commercial flight
The very first time a 747 was used by an airline was on January 22, 1970. Pan Am used to fly from New York to London.
The 747 did quite well when it first began to be used. Some people thought that airports would not be able to handle such a big plane. However, they could.
There were some problems, but they were quite small and they were fixed quickly.
After Pan Am began to use the plane, other airlines began to use their 747s -
