The first rotary phone was invented in 1904, but was not really used by any one until 1919. The first patent for it was made in 1896. The improvement add a dial that allowed you to call a specific person. The improvement was almost needed to help people call others. On April 3, 1973, the first cellphone was invented. The improvement made was that the phone did not need a wire to make a call and could make a call from any position in the world. This made life much easier for everyone because if you had to make a call outside you house or office, you had to find a phone booth.
