Bring Your Own Bat.
Durin the first 6 years of baseball the players had to provide their own bats. there where n restrictions on size. length, or width. Player expieramented with diffrent kinds of wood for their bats. During this time they also realized that they can hit better with a rounded bat. In 1852 there where still no restrictions on the bats. -
Early Restrictions
In 1850 the Professional National Association of Baseball Players Governing Comittie created the first bat size limitation. The limitation states the bats may be no larger then 2 1/2 inches in diamater. With The new rule players had people reshape their bats -
Civil War Years
During the civil war years some players had a difficult time gripping the large bat handal. To solve this they placed cord or sting arounf the handel as it waas better for control. -
Length Limits
In 1869 people adopted the new length rule stateing a bad can only be a miximum of 42 inches long. This Rule Has Nver Changed. -
First Costomised Bat For A Player
In 1850 bats where in noumerous shapes and sizes and there was no real differance between baseball and softball bats. Until J.A. "Bud" Hillerich for a player named "Pete Browning" in 1884. After Browning hit 4 solid hit in his next game the word spread and soon Bud began manufacturing the finest bats on the market creating the "Louisville Slugger" -
Hillerich To The Rescue
Pete "The Gladiator" Browning Star Out fileder broke his favorite bat and became very frustrated. The John Hillerich a wood worker for his father told pete he would make him a new bat. The Bat was coustomized according to Brownings Directions. He worked through the night and finally the bat was announced just right. The Next day Browning hit 3 for 3. Soon people from petes team ordered bats from John the other teams also started ordering. -
First Reported Game
The first softball bat was made in 1887 when 2 college teams played a football game. The loosing team threw an old boxing glove at a player and they swong at the ball using a broken broom handel. thus the first softball game was made, and so was the bat. -
First Aluminum Softball Bat
In the year of 1969 Easton made the first Aluminum Softball Bat. Most players prefered the aluminum bat over the wood because the ball came off of the bat 3.87 mph faster then it did when hit with a wood bat. To this day Easton still makes aluminum bats for both slow pitch and fast pitch softball. -
First Composet Softball Bat
In 1985 the first composet softball bat appeared on the market. this bat was made out of grafite and plastic. But users found this inferior to aluminum bats.
