    The then governor of Virginia, Sir George Yeardley, issued a call for the election of representatives to a House of Burgesses. It was the first agency of a governing body.
  • First Slaves in America

  • Charter of 1629

    The original charter of 1629 gave all power in the colony to a General Court composed of only a small number of shareholders in the company. Many settlers as a result were disfranchised that ultimately protested against this provision.

    Penn received his grant of land along the Delaware River in 1681 from King Charles II.

    In 1729, the Carolinas were converted into the two separate royal colonies of North and South Carolina.

    The signing of the constitution, although pivotal to American History. Did not extend the civil liberties to slaves, even though they accounted for approximately fifty percent of the citizens in America

  • Naturalization Act

    This allow a free white person who lived in United States for the term of two years, may be admitted to become a citizen.
    This discriminated against Native Americans and Slaves.
  • Invention of the Cotton Gin

    Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, in hopes to mitigate the rise of slavery. As a result, it cause a boom in slavery
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    The Alien Act gave the government the authority to deport any "non-citizens" and classified any non-native born citizens as foreign enemies. The Sedition Act attacked the core of free speech and free press, which discriminated greatly against immigrants.

    "Black Laws" goes into effect

    "Black Laws" goes into effect. This was aimed to "discourage" slaves from migrating to Ohio.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri was admitted to the Union as a slave state. As a result, the United States was split, eleven states were and eleven were free.
  • Indian Removal Act

    The Indian Removal Act denied citizenship and forced five separate Native Indian tribes to relocate to modern day Oklahoma.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo is signed

    The new land later became the states of Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, California, Arizona and Colorado.

    Thirteenth Amendment states that the amendment stated, "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
