Evolution of the Longboard

  • 1920's

    1920's
    In the 1920's, the longboard was only a prototype. Only having three wheels that where made out of metal.
  • 1930's

    1930's
    The longboard still has three metal wheels but has removable handle bars and the body shape of a rocketship
  • 1940's

    1940's
    The longboard now has four wheels made out aluminum and axles or "trucks" witch makes it easier to turn.
  • 1950's

    1950's
    The longboard begins to take the shape of what it looks like today. Kids in Hawaii use a larger plank of wood and begin to call it concrete surfing.
  • 1960's

    1960's
    First manufactured longboard is sold in New York. Vans shoes and now skating shoes allowing the skater to get better grip to the board. The kick-tail on the back of the board is introduced allowing to perform tricks easier.
  • 1970's

    1970's
    During this time skating was hitting its peak of popularity but also declining because insurance was skyrocketing and was not covering the cost of injury while skating, so skating was pronounced commercially dead.
  • Mid 1980's

    Mid 1980's
    The ragging fad of longboarding hits harder than ever in the U.S.A because of international influence. The longboard can now skate on more difficult terrain. There is a new attitude while skating.
  • 1990's

    1990's
    First ever broadcast of skating witch included time trials, best tricks, etc. This make the public go even more crazy over skating and longboarding.
  • The Olympics

    The Olympics
    In 2020, skating will be introduced into the Olympics. It will be held just like the X-Games with speed tests, time trails, and street skating.
