Evolution of a Dream

  • First Generation

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution was first released in 1992, as a homologation special so that Mitsubishi could take the then-new Lancer chassis (CD9A) rallying in the FIA's Group A class. It came with the company's 4G63T 2.0L turbocharged I4 engine which, through a 5-speed manual, sent power to all four wheels. This formula would remain largely unchanged through ten generations.
  • Too Fast, Too Furious

The Fast and The Furious, though universally panned, became a blockbuster hit, and remains one of the highest-grossing movie franchises in history. After the first movie made it big, 2 Fast 2 Furious (the sequel) came out two years later. One of the star vehicles was a 2001/2 Lancer heavily modified to resemble the contemporary Lancer Evolution VII. Thus began my deep love for Evos (as they are colloquially known), and a dream to own or at least drive one someday.
  • G to B

For the 2008 model year, Mitsubishi released the tenth generation of the venerable Lancer Evolution. It featured a brand-new chassis, and a brand-new engine for the first time in the model's history. Though it was still a turbocharged 2.0L I4 driving all four wheels, it was no longer the legendary iron-block 4G63T. Instead, it was the aluminum-block 4B11T, driving through either a 5-speed manual, or a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.
  • The Final Countdown

In 2016, Mitsubishi discontinued the Evo, citing tightening fuel economy and emissions regulations. Dream's still alive though.
