Birth/Childhood
Evita was born May 7, 1919 in Los Toldos, Argentina She grew up poor, dreaming of becoming actress. Peron and her sister Erminda made up little performances together when they were little. Her mother Juana Ibaguren, had four children with her father Juan Duarte. They were never married but Juana used the last name Duarte for her family. -
Dream Job
When Evita was 15 she moved to Buenos Aires so she could reach her dream of becoming an actress. -
Radio Staion
In 1943, she was on a special radio series, giving her the chance to play Queen Elizabeth I and Catherine the Great. While she was at the radio stations she met Juan Peron. -
Marriage
In 1945 Evita married governor official Juan Peron. That next year Juan became president of Argentina. This is when Evita became first lady and started programs for people in need. -
Maria Eva Duarte De Peron Welfare Foundation
In 1947, she set up the Maria Eva Duarte De Peron Welfare Foundation, which gave away money, food and medicines to people in need. -
Women's Suffrage
In 1949, Eva Peron founded the Peronist Feminine Party, an organization for women's suffrage. Only women could be members. -
Politics
In 1951, the army asked Evita to run for Vice president with her husband Juan. However Evita turned down the decision. Many people think that it was due to her bad health that she was battling right around the same time. -
Death/Funeral
The following month, Evita died of cervical cancer in Buenos Aires on July 26, 1952. She was given a very special funeral. -

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the hit musical “Evita” in 1979, which was based on Evita's life. -
Evita the Film
Madonna later played Evita in the 1996 film, with Antonio Banderas playing Che Guevara.
