Evita is Born!
Maria Eva Duarte, or more commonly referred to as Eva or Evita, was born May 7, 1919, in Los Toldos, Argentina. She was the youngest of four other children. Her father was Juan Duarte and her mother was Juana Ibarguren, though these two never married. -
The Loss of Juan
In 1926, Evita lost her father because he was in a car accident. According to reports, Evita’s mother, Juana, shunned Evita and the rest of the family at the funeral. This family was already struggling financially, the loss of Juan just meant greater hardships. -
Buenos Aires
In 1934, at the age of 15, she moved to Buenos Aires. It was at Buenos Aires that she became a successful actress. Her first film role was Segundos Afuera and she got a contract to perform on the radio. -
Theatre of the Air
It was around 1940, when Evita was about 20 years old, that Evita started her own entertainment business. It was called Theatre of the Air. This company produced radio programs. -
Radio Series Wonderland!
In 1943, Evita got to do something very special. She signed on to portray a number of famous women in history on a special radio series. This gave her the chance to play the likes of Catherine the Great and Queen Elizabeth I. -
Marriage
Evita married a man named Juan Peron, giving Evita the last name Peron, in 1945. The following year, Juan became president of Argentina. She used the position of first lady to its full potential by trying to rid women suffrage and improve the lives of the poor. -
Amazing Woman
Evita became a “legendary figure in Argentine politics” so reporters say. She was a skilled speaker and she was adored by the poor people she helped. In 1951, she was asked to run as vice president with her husband but she resisted. -
Cervical Cancer
People later learned that their may have been more to the turn down then just a few people not supporting Evita’s position as vice president. Around that time, Evita was battling a major health issue. Evita was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1951. -
Death of Evita
Evita was forced to surrender to cervical cancer on July 26, 1952. Her last public appearance was the June of 1952, at her husband's second inauguration. After her death, many people were upset, lots of people adored her at the time. -
Evita's Death Ceremony
Evita's funeral was as fit as the president's funeral would be. They held a ceremony in honor of Evita, and she was put on display. In 1971, her body was exhumed and flown to Spain. People say that Evita will always be remembered.
