Events Towards Colonial Independence

  • French & Indian War Started

    It was a start of a long going rivalry between the British and the French. They would attack each other on a small scale and officially declare war in May 28, 1754. This war broke out all throughout the colonies but, the French were not alone. With the help of Spain and Native Americans the French were going to try to finally put an end to the British power in the colonies.
  • The End of the French & Indian War

    Even with France having two allies and Britain none, France still couldn't be able to beat the British army and lost all its land in the Americas. By 1763 France had lost the war and Signed the Treaty Of Paris to declare defeat, and would give Spain Louisiana , and Britain got: Spanish Florida, and various french holding overseas.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    In the end of the war France issued a proclamation to give native Americans there land that France previously owned. The land was west of the Appalachian mountains, while colonist were issued that they couldn't go west of the Appalachian mountains.
  • Sugar Act

    The sugar act was a tax that was issued to the colonist by Britain to tax them on imported Sugar and molasses. England told the colonist if they imported sugar for them it would be cheaper but the colonist weren't happy at all. Colonist protested and set another tax on the future.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act was later issued after the sugar act to increase other taxation on paper . Colonist were pissed because they felt England just wanted money for themselves.
  • The Quartering Act

    Was a law passed by England to provide housing to military and could not reject, colonist felt that Britain was evading there privacy as well as violating there rights.
  • The Townshend Act

    This act removed all previous taxes except tea, although Britain had taken out the majority of the taxes the colonist were still not satisfied and still felt not comfortable on how Britain just taxed them with no right.
  • Boston Massacre

    The beginning of what would lead to a revolution started out with a massacre that was in the hands of British soldiers and angry colonists. The British soldiers felt threatened by a angry mob of colonist that they started to kill the angry protesters.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    Was a committee that joined all thirteen colonies into one, to against the British government lead by Samuel Adams
  • Tea Act

    The main of objective of England was to make a monopoly out of there tea company and reduce the profit of colonial companies who also did tea
  • Boston Tea Part

    Was a result of angry colonist on the tea act, they dressed up as American Indians and tossed all the tea of three British ships. All done by Adams Sons Of Liberty group
  • Intolerable Act

    Britain took action by closing all harbors due to the primitive approach of Colonist on the event of the Boston tea party. The harbor, according to England would remain closed until all the tea tossed in the harbor was re payed by the colonists
  • First Continental Congress

    Representatives of all 13 colonies except Georgia went to Philadelphia to create a Congress that would be assigned to all the 13 colonies, which helped on talk to the British army on taxation and rights
  • Lexington & Concord

    Was the battle that started the American Revolution, unfortunately the colonist lost that battle
  • Second Continental Congress

    Right after the start of the american revolution this served as government of the 13 colonies throughout the war. This Continental Congress had the same delegates from the First. They also formed the an army with George Washington as Commander in 1775
  • Common Sense

    Was a pamphlet made by Thomas Paine in which he was trying to persuade colonist that we needed Independence from England and what wrong doings the British were doing, as in NO taxation without representation
  • Declaration Of Independence

    In July 4th, 1776 the continental Congress Passed the Declaration Of Independence, which separated the British and the colonies. 12 Colonies adopted the document, while New York adopted it on July 9th
