Events that led to the Revolution

  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War, also known as the 7 Year War, was the final Colonial War. It was a War in North America and they were fighting for control over the Ohio Valley. This led towards the Revolutionary War because it acts as a starting point to the anger of the colonists and carried out through history.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 is what angered everyone because it closed off the frontier for colonial expansion. It did though establish 4 new colonies. The Proclamation prevented the colonists from moving West of the Appalachian Mountains.This angered the colonists and pushed them towards war because the natives took control of their land and left them no where to go.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was when merchants were required to 6 percent a gallon on molasses. This affected the purchases of indigo, coffee, and wine. These taxes were raised without the permission of the colonists and it angered them very much. They were never required to pay taxes and by getting these taxes piled on them, it angered them greatly.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act is an act of the British Parliament that taxed colonists for the purchaseing of newspapers and legal documents. This affected the colonists directly the same way that the sugar act did. The colonists were not used to being taxed and by getting taxed for so many every day necessities, it upset them and led them in the direction of war.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre first occured when the throwing of objects killed several colonists which angerred them. The British colonists were not welcome and the colonists made sure to make them known of it. The Boston Massacre led directly to the royal governer which was the main reason it was an event which led up toward the revolution.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party is when the colonist revolted against the British by dressing up as Indians and dumping the tea into the Boston Harbor. This was a huge factor that put the British over the edge and closer towards war.
