The Premier of NSW, Sir Henry Parkes urged the colonies to enter Federation. He said it would be better to be a nation as Australia in unity and not a collection of 6 British colonies without anything to unify us. -

The Second Convention
For the second time the Australasian Convention meets in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne. This is for constitution to be approved. It was signed by all of New South Wales. -
A Secret Meeting
The Premiers of each colony met for an agreement of making small changes to the constitution. -
The Process of Signing
The government had to send the constitution to British Parliament and to the Queen of England for their signature and approval. -
Federation comes to Australia (at last)
On the 1st of January 1901, federation was passed. the first Commonwealth Election was held for a national parliament. On the 9th of May the Duke of Cornwall and York opens the first commonwealth Parliament.
