Hitler becomes the leader of the Nazi party
In the beginning of 1921, the leaders of the Nazi movement looked toward Hitler. They believed that he could carry the movement across all of Germany. Origionally, the Party was run by a committee who believed Hitler to be highly dictatorial. They wanted to weaken his position, but he announced that he was leaving the party. After realizing that Hitler's absense could meant the end of the Nazi Party, the committee invited him back. Adolf Hitler became the leader of the National Socialst Party. -
Nazi-Soviet Pact Signed
Soviet Russia' Foreign Minister Molotov and German Foreign Minister Von Ribbentrop signed the Nazi-Sofiet Non-aggression Pact in Moscow in 1939. This contract stated that the two partnering countries would not be involved of acts of violence towards the other countries in their Power. They would not act out in violence either together or separately. -
Nazis Invade Paris
Nazis marched into France's capital city of Paris and took over the city. They set a curfew, made arrests, and began interrogations as the soldiers spied on the citizens. Before troops arrived, over 2 million native residents of the city fled to escape the bondage that would be brought by the Germans. -
Battle of Britian Begins
German and British air forces battled in the skies above the United Kingdom. These fights turned into the largest sustained bombing campaign upon that time. The Battle ended when Germany’s Luftwaffe could not gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force and could not control military posts its civilian population. Britain’s victory saved the country from a ground invasion from Germany. -
US Freezes Axis Assests
The United Stats froze all assests of Germany and Italy within the country. This was to prevent any suspecious activity by allies of the European countries living the States of gaining access and possibly threatening departments in the US. -
Operation Barbarossa
Hitler pushed his armies eastward in a massive invasion of the Soviet Union territory. By this point, the German army was the most advanced army to fight in the nineteen hundreds. The failure of the Barbossa invasion made things complicated for the German army as they had to fight a two-front war with fewer resources. -
Germany Declares War on US
The US President ordered the US military to shoot at any German vessels they saw. When German forces confirmed this they develped a similar policy and stated that the US "virtually created a state of war." They then released this statment: "The German Government, discontinues diplomatic relations with the United States of America and declares that under these circumstances brought about by President Roosevelt, Germany too, as from today, considers herself as being in a state of war with America" -
Jews Killed at Kiev
When the Nazis first invaded Kiev, most of the Jewish population was able to escape from the city. Those where were unable to leave were rounded up by the Germans and executed. 33,771 Jews were killed by shooting over two days. -
"Big Three" Meet
The first time Allies Soviet Union leader Josef Stalin; U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt; and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill met was in Teheran, Iran. The conferenced meeting lasted four days as the men discussed combining military strageties. -
Paris is Liberated
On August 23, a French army division moved toward the capital city. They freed all Parisian prisoners and continued to fight the German soldiers stationed there. American soldiers aided the French in the fighting, and the defeated Germans were taken as captives. On the 25, French General Jacques Leclerc entered Paris as it became free of control of the Germans
