Yalta Conference
Also named the Crimea Conference, a meeting of three World War II allies. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin. They met in order to plan the final defeat and occupation of Nazi Germany. -
Creation of the United Nations
An International organization founded in order to maintain international peace and security. They wanted to prevent another world war from happening after WWII was done. -

After WWII there was a fear that foreign communists were infiltrating American society and the federal government. A lot of propaganda was spread to make people fear communism and communists. -
Truman Doctrine
The principle that the Us should support countries or people threatened by soviet forces or communist insurrection. Established in a speech Truman gave to Congress where he would seek aid for Greece and Turkey. -
Berlin Blockade
An attempt by the Soviet Union to try and limit the ability of the U.S, Britain, and France to travel to their respective sectors of Berlin. The blockade would cut off all land and river transit between West Berlin and West Germany. -
Creation of NATO
Known as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization NATO was founded after WWII in order to secure peace in Europe and to encourage cooperation between members. It also safeguarded the Allies' freedom and security by military and political means. -
Korean War
A conflict between what would become North Koreas and South Korea. The war would have outside countries joining in with the Soviet Union on the North's side and the UK and US on the South's. -

America and the USSR competed to prove that they were Superior in technology and intelligence by trying to put the first human into space. This would progress into the US landing on the moon and forming NASA. -
Vietnam War
Conflict between the communist government of North Vietnam against South Vietnam who was allies with the US. The US joined because they were super against communism and any nation that had a chance of being taken over by communism they tried to prevent. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
Failed military landing operation on the southwestern coast of Cuba. Launched by the CIA to try and push Cuban leader Fidel Castro from power. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
American spy plane photographed nuclear missile site being built in Cuba by the Soviet Union. Showdown lasted 13 days and almost caused nuclear war. -
Soviet Invasion of Czechoslovakia
Soviet led troops in an invasion to crack down on reformist trends in Prague. The invasion resulted in stopping reforms and it also strengthened the authoritarian wing of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. -
Chernobyl Disaster
Nuclear accident in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant that occurred during a safety test. Many mistakes happened and led to several massive explosions. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
As the Cold war was coming to an end the spokesman for East Berlin's Communist Party announced that at midnight citizens were free to cross the country's border. This was one of the events that started the fall of communism throughout Eastern and Central Europe. -
Fall of the Soviet Union
Many factors went into the Soviet union's fall, political policies, economics, and nuclear incidents were some of them. Many republics would declare their independence which would led to the leader resigning from his job and the USSR ceasing to exist.
