  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War lasted seven years. This war lasted from 1756-1763, and ended with the Proclamation of 1763. This prohibited the Anglo American colonists from settling on lands of the French gain.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Stamp Act of 1765
    The Stamp act was a form of tax from the British that helped payed for British troops stationed in the colonies. This meant that any purchase by an American that was either paper, documents, or playing cards had to be stamped.

    The Sons of Liberty were a group of colonist in America that did not like British rule of the 13 colonies. They helped start the American Revolution by their actions and activities.
  • Townshend Act of 1767

    Townshend Act of 1767
    The purpose of the Townshend act was so that the British could get more money for themselves by taxing the colonies. The British taxed everything from glass and lead to paper, paint, and tea. The Americans did not like this idea because they had to pay taxes for the items listed above.

    British soldiers guarding the Boston Customs house. They shot into a crowd of civilians which ended up killing three men and injured eight, two of them mortally.

    The British put taxes on everything without representation. The Americans were furious about this and 342 chest of tea got dumped into the harbor imported from the British East Company.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts was a punishment to the colony of Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. This closed the harbor until the tea was paid for. This also ended the Massachusetts Constitution along with ending the free elections of town officials.

    These battles marked the start of American's independence from Great Britain. This battle is also known as the shot heard round the world. It was great for the Americans because it inspired others to stand up and fight for what they want.

    While the American patriots lost this battle, they proved that they could hold their ground. The Battle of Bunker hill also confirmed that it was no longer possible for any reconciliation between the colonies and Great Britain.

    A document that declared the colonies' independence from Great Britain. The 13 rebel colonies united together as a unit once they realized they were fighting for the same thing.

    Treaty of Paris signed
    An end to the war of the American Revolution. This granted the U.S. independence and granted the United States a lot of territory in the west.
  • 3/5 Compromise

    3/5 Compromise
    The 3/5 compromise involved slaves and how much they were counted for. It was compromised that slaves counted for 3/5 of a human for a state's total population. The Compromise also was for legislative representation and taxation.
  • Great Compromise

    Great Compromise
    The Great Compromise was honored by two architects. These two provided a dual system congressional representation. At the end of this, it was established that in the House of Representatives, each state would be assigned a number of seats based on it's proportion and population.

    It was a debate between the states who wanted and didn't want the new form of government. Nine of the thirteen states at the time enacted the new form of government.
