This is an event that goes from December 1777 to June 1778. The Rebels stayed here and built forts. There was barley any clothes, coats, or food, and many people died that winter. That spring, lots more people died of disease. That June, the soldiers were ready to fight again.

The battle at Yorktown lasted 20 days. Washington saw that French ships were coming in. he thought it would be a good time to attack the British. 7000 men lead by Washington marched to Virginia. Meanwhile Grasse's fleet had blocked the British naval unit, making escape impossible. 3000 more French soldiers came from the ships. On Sep. 28, they attacked. The Americans won the War, with the help of the French, and made a group to make a govornment. They decided to be an independant country instead of including the French, like they expected. Ben Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay made the decisions allowing Americans to use the land they lost. The Peace treaty was signed, and the Treaty of Paris was signed Sep 3rd, 1783.
