    Lexington and Concord- The Spark- #embers of war
    Lexington and Concord~Britain sent soldier to Lexington and Concord to capture thier leaders and seize all gunpowder from Concord. Spies and friends had told the American colonist of the British plan to attack. 70 minutemen defended when 240 British soldiers came. A shot wizzed through the air known as the shot heard round the world. 7 colonist died and the British marched on. Minutemen forces in Concord forced the soldiers to retreat but were confronted by others. The British lost 125 soldiers due to the minute men.

    Bunker Hill~The American colonists were ordered to go to Bunker Hill but went to Breed Hill by mistake. The colonist set up a camp and military postion at the British camp. The British were forced to attack even though the were at a disadvantge. Genral Howe marched his troops uphill. The Americans waited till they were close and unleashed a bloody fusillade. The British retreated and came back in waves. The took the hill but lost 1,054 men.

    Valley Forge~Many men marched into Valley Forge with George Washington. They had barely any food, water, shoes, and it was freezing. This was a low point in the war because all the men wanted leave the war. Some left because they were just sitting and dying and none of them were fighting. Disease hit when summer came. Evtually after some encouragment they began to stop leaving and stay. This was the point of the war so low they thought they had no hope left.

    Valley Forge~With the British delaying and deafeted at times it gave the Americans time to re-group. They set a fortification along the Hudson river. the British attempted to avoid them but ran into them and lost many men. The British could not get to Albany. The British attempted to fortify what they had but were evntually attacked and had low suppplies so he was forced to surrender. This was the turning point because it convinced the Fremnch to join war on the American side giving the Americans much more .

    Articles of ConfederationThe Articles of Confederation were written from the principles that were fought about in war. They had no taxation, no control of trade, and a weak executive. This was all not a proper way to run a country. the overment could not overn properly because all the states had thier own system. This was our transition from war to the constitution.

    YorktownMonths before British general ade an unauthorized move to Virginia. He was then ordered, after being criticized, to set up a defensive fort at Yorktown. Washington heard news of this and planned an attack. They marched into Virginia leaving men behind to defend and fool the British. On September 28 the 16,000 French and American troops marched into Yorktown. They captured two main redoubts on October 14. The British were eventually forced to surrender.

    Treaty of ParisAfter the battle of Yorktown the Continental Congress named a five-member commission to negotiate a treaty--John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Laurens. Laurnes was captured by the British and Jefferson did not leave the U.S. The preliminary articles of peace were signed by Adams, Franklin, Jay, and Henry Laurens for the United States and Richard Oswald for Great Britain on November 30, 1782. The final treaty was signed on September 3, 1783
