    The Houseof Representative formed a group called the HUAC to investigate radical groups in the U.S. It would focus on the cummunism in the U.S. during the cold war.
  • Yalta Conference

    Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill met again. There goal was to discss the end of war and discussed plans for peace. Reaching an agreement they divided Germany into 4 sections.(USSR, U.S., Great Britain, and France). Soviets get to take control of the eastern half of Germany.

    Soviet Union makes a bid for control of Berlin by bllcoking all land access to the city. U.S. and British planes airlift 1.5 million tons of supplies to people in West Berlin. After about 200,000 fights, the Soviet Union take down the blockade.

    In responce to a similar treaty in 1949. It was based on total equality in nations. It became a political tool for the Soviats. They did not have to share the military with any other country.

    Mao Zedong was a leader of the communist party,took control of China. bringing communism to the country. He borught his military stratagies and his very ownunique political veiws.

    The Soviet Union provided little aid to the communists, and the United States assisted the Nationalists with hundreds of millions of dollars worth of military supplies and equipment. On October 1, 1949, Mao Zedong proclaimed the establishment of the People's Republic of China.

    Cold War tensions between the United States and the USSR eventually get to Korea when Soviet-backed North Korea invaded South Korea. Truman went mad with military spending and ordered General MacArthur to retake the southern part of the peninsula. MacArthur succeeded and then pushed the North Koreans to the Chinese border. Threatened, over a million soldiers from Communist China poured into Korea, forcing MacArthur to retreat.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    Hungarian Revolution
    nationwide revolt against the government lasting from 23 October until 10 November 1956. started as a student demonstartion, witch attracted thousands. The government would eventually collapse. Soviets invaded country, killing over 2,500 Hungarians and 700 Soviet troops and 200,000 Hungarians fled as refugees. By 1957 the Russian goverment took over making there power even larger.

    Castro was the Prime Minister of Cuba from February 1959 to December 1976, For communisim and being a political leader, he was elected as president of Cuba. Making Cuba and U.S. have some tension.

    during the presidency of Dwight Eisenhower, on May 1, 1960 the U-2 U.S. plane was shot down over the Soviet Union airspace. This prompted a marked deterioration in its relations with the Soviet Union.

    On August 15th a wall is put up in Germany to prevent East Germans from fleeing to West Berlin where the economy is much stronger. Communist athurorities were in charge of this. U.S. did not like this.

    Antiwar demonstraters at Kent State set fire to Campus reserve officers training corps building. On may 4th students gathered for an antiwar rally. Getting rowdy, students threw rocks and other objects at the soldiers, soldiers then started to fire at the students.

    The Soviets had a war in Afghanistan for nine years. (from December 1979 to February 1989) The U.S. and other countries provided financial aid and other things to help them win. Many people were killed and the Soviets had to pull out.
