    The Great Notrthern War was an even that started in 1700 and lasted all the way to 1721. The war was fought by Peter the Great from Russia and Charles XII from Sweeden. The war was because of land. Russia wanted a foothold in the Baltic but they could never get it until they took out Sweeden.

  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    The Decembrist Revolt was a revolt that took place in December of 1825. It was a small group of nobles and army officers that attempted to overthrow the czar. They were met with a crushing blow. They were quickly squashed by the czar as he executed 5 leaders and exiled hundreds more to Siberia.

    Czar Alexander the II emancipates the serfs
    The serfs were a part of Russia's class system that had little rights and lived in severe poverty. Czar Alexander freed them from their binds to the land but the serfs didn't know what to do and most of them lived in extreme poverty and had little land.

    Czar Alexander II was assassinated by a bomb thrown in the streets by an organization called "The People's Will." This was an organization that employed terrorism in its efforts to over throw the czarist autocracy.

    This war developed out of Russias hunger for expansion in the East. Russia and Japan had a rivalry over the dominance for Korea and Manchuria. But Japan won that war and Russia's hopes for expansion in the East were crushed.

    This event was kicked off by Bloody Sunday. It lasted all the way to October of that year. After that workers went on strike an there were Unions that were established. Eventually the Czar was overthrown and a Communist Government was put into play.

    Bloody Sunday was an event where unarm protestors were fired upon by Czar Nicholas II's Imperial Guard. After this event the Czar was nicknamed Bloody Nicholas. This event stoked the fires for the Russian revolution.

    This war started with a Serb nationalist shooting an Austria-Hungary arcduke. When Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Serbia called in Russia for back up. Russia willingly agreed. The results were not good for Russia. The army performed poorly and eventually even Czar Nicholas II went in to help command.

    The March Revolution was a series of events that happened in the month of March. Many workers in Russia went on strike because they wanted a raise in pay. There were terrible riots and the czar could not control them. Eventually Czar Nicholas the second would have to give up his throne.

    Czar Nicholas the II abdictates the Russian thrown
    Nicholas the II, the last czar of Russia, abdictated his throne and was sent off to live in the Ural Mountains under house arrest. He was abdictated because of Bloody Sunday and his poor handling of Russia's troops in WWI.
