    Czar Peter I later known as Peter the great defeats Sweden in The Great Northern War winning access to the Baltic Sea. A lifelong obsession that Peter the Great had. The effect that this win in this War had was after the War Peter the Great created St. Petersburg
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    A group of nobles and army offices tried to overthrow the czar government. They hoped to set up a constiutional monarchy. What happend after the event was Czar Nicholas responed with a brutal repression. He imposed strict censorship, banned book from the West that might contain liberal ideas, and targeted school and univerities as centers unrest. He hired secret police that spied on students, teachers, and even government officals. More that 150,000 people were acused of treason.

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    By the mid 1800's European nations were industrializing and growing more powerful. In Russia serfdom slowed such developent. Factory owners could not find enough workers because so many people were serfs. So with that Czar Alezander II emancipated(freed) the serfs.

    The ruler of Russia since 1855 was killed in the streets in St. Petersburg by a bomb thrown by a member of the revolutionary "People's Will" group. The effect was the people wanted to overthrow Russia's czarist autocracy.

    Following the Russian rejection of a Japanese plan to divide Manchuria and Korea into spheres of influence, Japan launches a surprise naval attack against Port Arthur, a Russian naval base in China. The Russian fleet was decimated. This convinced Russia that further resistance against Japan's imperial designs for East Asia was hopeless

    Bloody Sunday
    A peceful march was planned and the leader of the group Father Gapon went to the czar's palace in St. Petersburg. The poeple of Russia wanted to present a petition to Nicholas II for better working conditions and some political Freedoms. Once they got to the czar's palace they came across soldiers that were protecting the czar's that shot them down the soldiers killed hundreds of Russians. The effect was that the czar did not care about the people.

    The Revolution of 1905 was a wave of mass political and social unrest that spread through vast areas of the Russian Empire. Some of it was directed against the government, while some was undirected. It included worker strikes, peasant unrest, and military mutinies. It led to the establishment of limited constitutional monarchy, the State Duma of the Russian Empire, the multi-party system, and the Russian Constitution of 1906.

    Russia did did terribly. Its troops didn't have enough guns, equipment or food; and it was poorly led. The citizens had to give their food to the army, which still wasn't enough. Very early in WW1 Russia invaded Germany, but the German army pushed the Russian forces back, and then fighting happened in Russia. Russia pulled out of the war in 1917. The effect of this was the March Revolution.

    WWI went to so poorly and Russia used most of its food to feed the sodiers. With that the people had strkikes and went on a riots in order to get food to survie.

    Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne
    On this day Czar Nicholas II abdicates from the Russian throne by the throne by the Petrograd insurgents, and a provincial government is installed in his place. This meant that the people of Russia wanted a new leader and a better leader. The serfts wanted freedom of speech and freedom to vote. Overall a better way of living.
