  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    Nobles and army officers tried to over trow the czar. Nicholas I crushed the revolution quickly, and had five leaders executed and hundreds of other ppeple exiled to Siberia. He became very strict and paranoid. Although they were not considered succesfull, th emembers of the Decembrist Revolt went down in history as heroes.

    The Assasination of Alexandar II
    The nobles wanted socialism. They tried to gain the help of the peasants, but they were scared. The nobles ended up killing many political figures, including the Czar himself.
  • Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    The serfs were legally freed, but they did not gain very many rights. The Czar tried to introduce new reforms, but they did not stick. Not much was changed. The serfs were still very poor and starving.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Father Geogri Gapon lead thousands of people in a peaceful march outisde of the Czar's palace. They were holding banners of the Czar, and asking for better working conditions and some political freedoms. Nicholas II ordered his soldiers to fire on the crowd and many were killed. Some say about 100, others say close to 5,000. The blood of the dead stained the white snow, and the day became known as Blody Sunday.

    The Revolution of 1905
    People were striking and rioting, peasants looted and burned homes. It became very violent. The Czar tried to calm things, by intrducing new political changes, but it did not help much.

    Russian citizens were starving, soldiers were dying. Nobody had supplies. CItizens became very unhappy.
  • The March Revolution

    The March Revolution
    The people were striking, and rioting. Shouting "Bread and Peace!" Czar Nicholas II ordered his soldiers to calm the crowds, bu tthey refused to fire. AMany soldiers even joined the protesters. Living conditions were horrible, and people were starving. The people rioted so bad that Nicholas II abdicated himself from the thrown a week later.

    Czar Nicholas II Abdicates the Throne
    THe Russian people are angry. THey are riting, and striking everywhere. People are becming violent. Nicholas realized that he had lost the support of his army, and he abdicated himself.
