    Governor Hotham ordered twice weekly license checks.
    The licenses were checked twice per week. The minors didn’t like this change as they were hoping Hotham would decrease the license price.
  • James Scobie murdered

    James Scobie murdered
    A miner named James Scobe was murdered in the Eurika Hotel. All the miners felt that the owner of the hotel was guilty of the murder and chargers were held on him.
  • Eurika hotel set on fire

    After James scobie was murdered at the hotel the charges were dropped and the miners were mad so they set the hotel on fire.

    The miners built a wall called a stockade so the troopers could not get to them.
  • Troopers attacked the stockade

    Troopers attacked the stockade
    Peter Laylor was the leader and he decided to burn there licences. The miners raise there new flag that was in the shape of the southern cross. At dawn on Sunday December 3 the troop attacked the stockade and at lest 30 miners where killed and 128 where taken to prison. 4 soldiers were killed in the attack.
