  • Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri compromise was legislation by Congress for the administration of Maine to the US as a free state and Missouri as a slave state. In order for balance, slavery was ban in the north. this event impacted history by bringing one f the major events leading up to the civil war.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    David Wilmot. The Wilmot proviso of 1846 was the proposition for a bill that would ban slavery in any new territory taken during the Mexican War. This act fueled the conflict between the North and the South over the issue of power in Congress. When David Wilmot proposed the bill to ban slavery { didn't make it past the Senate} but the south got concern, many people who supported slavery took it as an attack on slavery from the north

  • Fugitive Slave Act

    The fugitive slave act was a law past by Congress for escaped slaves to be caught. later on, there was debate if it would become a law, but the problem was the north opposed that bill and the south wanted slaves. later on, people from the south were hunting for escaped slaves and even ¨freed" slaves. this law forced any federal officer who did not arrest runaway slave to pay money. { this increased the underground railroad activity.

    Bleeding Kansas was a mini civil war between slavery and anti-slavery in Kansas. When Kansas was first discovered free black slavery wanted to expand to it but pro-slavery people didn't want the free blacks to take up their land so they went to war. It impacted history because when people heard about Kansas, both the whites and free black people wanted to settle, so instead of using the principle of popular sovereignty.

    Dred Scott was an enslaved African American who fought for his freedom. he claimed that he was illegally held when his master took him to Illinois and Illinois { which were both free territory} later on the case made it to the supreme court and the court held that they did not have jurisdiction because Scott was not a US citizen.

    john brown is an abolitionist, who collected slaves and armed them On July 3, 1859, Brown arrived in Harpers Ferry, he raised money for other abolitionists to arm slaves. he planned on to escape with 21 armed slaves on harpers ferry, but word got out and the escaped was stopped later on he was sentenced to death
