Selective Service Act is passed
A couple of weeks after the United States entered the first world war, they pass this act that gives the president the power to draft soldiers. This act passed on May 1917. Before this, every soldier was a volunteer. -
Hitler is named leader of the Nazi Party in Germany
Due to his ability to speak in public with ease, and draw a huge crowd of listeners, the National Socialist Workers party decided that the best thing to do was putting Hitler in charge. So, in 1921, Hitler becomes the new leader of the Nazi party in Germany, and he himself designs the flag. -
Kellogg-Briand Pact signed
Also known as the pact of Paris, it said that the Nations that agreed to sign, were not to start a war amongst themselves due to any dispute of conflict- and if they did, they were to have their benefits that came with the act, denied. 27 August 1928 -
Japan invades Manchuria
Happened on September 1931. The Japanese army invades Manchuria, which is the name they gave a big portion of eastern Asia, which would now be a piece of China and some people think a piece of Russia too. -
Enabling Act of 1933 is issued
It was an act that was issued in 1933 on Germany, which stated that Hitler didn't have to get his laws aproven. He could just make them. This basically gave Hitler absolute power. -
Neutrality Act of 1935 signed
It claimed a general embargo on trading in arms and war materials with all parties in a war. It also stated that everyone traveling in a warring ship traveled at their own risk. -
FDR wins a third term as president
President Franklin. D Roosevelt was elected to office for the third time in his life on November 5, 1940. He won by a large margin over his competing republican party, and that lead to him getting elected a fourth time in the elections of 1944, and would end his presidential career in 1945 due to his death. -
Lend-Lease program enabled
President Roosevelt proposed that he should be able to provide aid to any country who he considered was important for the US defense. It passed on March 1941 for security reasons. -
A Philip Randolph’s march and Roosevelt’s response
Randolph proposed a march to fight against racial discrimination. Randolph invited every African-American in the country to join him in Washington D.C. President Roosevelt, in fear that this would cause trouble against the whites, so he invited Randolph to the white house, and asked him to call of the war. Randolph refused, so Roosevelt employed an order to all laborers to stop racial discrimination. 1941 -
Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor
The Japanese performed a surprise attack against the United States on December 7, 1941. This was one of the triggering events that lead to Germany declaring war to the United States. The American base was attacked by 350 japanese planes, and 188 of US planes were destroyed. Around 3,000 Americans were affected (wounded or killed) by this attack. -
Adolf Hitler declares war against the United States
Four days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, and the declaration of war from the United States to Japan, Nazi Germany decides to declare war to the United States. Hitler says it was due to a series of provocations by the United States, while it was supposed to be a neutral country. Hitler took this decision without consultation and later that day, the United States declared war on Germany. December 11, 1941
