    A slave named Dred Scott lived in a free state and was suing the court because he had his freedom because he lived in a free state while they say he is not free because he was a slave and is an African American.

    A series of 7 debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, the main thing that they debated about was slavery in the United States. They were trying to gain control of the Illinois General Assembly for their respective parties.

    He was a new Republican leader and gained national attention in 1858 when he lost to Douglas during debate, he then ran for president and got a lot of votes from the North and winning the election.

    They were the first slave state in the south to secede from the union because they were afraid Lincoln would free their slaves. They did so they could keep their way of life, that was in fact based on slavery.

    Representatives from 6 seceded states came together and met in Montgomery, Alabama and established a unified government called The Confederate States of America. States joined South Carolina to form a new country, the Confederate States of America.
