  • First Continental Congress meeting

    Because of the Intolerable acts, the committee of correspondence convened in Philidelphia. There was a total of 56 delegates.
  • Paul Revere's ride and Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Paul Revere's ride and Battle of Lexington and Concord
    Revere rode from Charlestown to Lexington to warn the colonist of the British coming. The local militia of 77 men then met the 700 British troops in Lexington.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Located in Charlestown, British forces seized control over the hill, but lost more than 40% of assault troops. This was considered a moral victory for the Americans.
  • Declaration of Independance adopted

    Colonist believed that colonies should have their own form of government which then resulted in the adaptation of the Declaration of Independance. Thomas Jefferson then wrote this.
  • Washington crosses the Delaware

    On Christmas night, Washington and his troops launched an assault on British troops at the Delaware river. Took more than 900 prisoners.
  • France and the United States form Alliance

    Time period when France was secretly sending aid to the Americans and did not become public with their aid until the treaty of alliance was signed. Declared war on Britain June 1778.
  • Benedict Arnold Turns Traitor

    American General that conveyed with the British to surrender their fort. When plot was discovered, he looked for help from the British.
  • Seige of Yorktown

    Washingtons army and the French met Cornwallis and other British troops at Yorktown where Washington overpowered them and caused them to surrender his army.
  • Articles of Confederation Ratified

    Articles of Confederation Ratified
    First U.S constitution that served as a bridge between initial government of continental congress and the federal government.
  • Treaty of Paris ends the War

    After being defeated at Yorktown, the British continued to fight at sea. Signified that the United States was independent from Britian.
