French and Indian War
The cause of the French and Indian War was that England and France both claimed the same land(Ohio River Valley)
George Washington went to consult a group of French leaders and the Indians he was with attacked them. He went back to Bunker hill and the French came and killed many of the Indians he was with to prove a point.
The British ended up winning the war and were in a lot of debt, so they began taxing the colonist. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation stated that the colonist aren't allowed to go past west of the Appalachian Mountains, it was preserved land for the Indians.
This made the colonist very angry and felt it was unfair. -
Sugar Act
England put taxes on sugar and molasses, it also sent smugglers to British courts.
George Grenville put this law in act.
One of the main ways of income in the colonies was alcohol and they need sugar and molasses to sweeten it up and therefore it took away from their profit
The colonies responded to this boycotting many British goods that weren't sent over and being taxed because of this new law.

Quartering Act
The quartering act was a law that forced the colonist to house British soldiers in their home, supply them with food, water and shelter. -
Stamp Act
George Grenville passed this law.

Stamp act Congress
Delegates of the colonies met in NYC. They met so they could discuss the problems with parliament and the king. They figured the king could not tax them because they had no representation in parliament. -
Declaratory Act
parliament repealed the stamp act, but said they had the right to create rules and laws in the colonies. -
Townshend Acts.
Taxed numerous goods shipped from England. Started the "writs of assistants" which allowed officers to search peoples home without warning or a search warrant. -
Boston Massacre
- Crispus Attucks was killed -5 colonist killed
- British soldiers surrounded in Boston and shots were fired.

Boston tea party
The sons of liberty were responsible for Boston tea party. Caused by the Boston Massacre.

England responded by adding the intolerable act. -
Intolerable Acts
Was meant to effect the colonist. Closed down the Boston ports. Colonies responded by meet at the first continental congress. -
Quebec Act

First Continental Congress
All of the colonies sent delegates to meet in Philadelphia except Georgia. They met in response to the intolerable acts. They agreed to have no military actions unless attacked, planned to meet again later next year.

Battle of Bunker Hill
Bunker Hill is in Boston.British troops stormed up the hill but had to retreat 3 times until the colonist ran out of ammo. This gave the colonist confidence that they could win the war. -
Battle of Concord and Lexington
Britsh heard there was Guns and weapons in Concord, colonist met them in Lexington and someone shot. British were after stash of weapons and Samuel Adams. About 70 Minutemen waiting for them in Lexington. For the colonists, 49 were killed, 39 were wounded, and five were missing. Second Continental Congress
Sam Adams, Johnathan Adams, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. Most of the previous state delegates came with a few exceptions and a few extra. The Olive Branch Petition and Declaration of Independence was written at this time as well. -
Common Sense
Written by Thomas Paine. Told the colonist it takes a great effort to reach a great thing like freedom. It gave the colonist more of a reason to fight and gave them a moral booster. -
Decloration of Independence
Thomas Jefferson wrote the D.o.I.Was signed on July 4 1776 it broke America apart from Great Britain. It talked about the inalienable rights: life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, talked about unfair laws and taxes and how the king and parliament violated the social contract. Britain responded by saying the colonies were in a state of rebellion.
