    A compromise was needed in order to save the union and to prohibit slavery in the south.The compromise was eventually written and Henry Clay was asked to write it. It passed the House but failed in the Senate, where the South had greater representation.Played a factor in abolishing slavery,and a MAJOR role in the starting of "The Civil War".

    2.Texas surrendered its claim to New Mexico as well as its claims north of the Missouri Compromise Line
    3.Slave trade was banned in D.C.
    4.Fugitive SLave Act
    5.Two territories could vote on wether to permit slavery or not

  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    -Was passed to try to solve the issue of slavery in the western territories.
    - Had the effect of repealing the Missouri Compromise of 1820 by allowing settlers in those territories to determine through Popular Sovereignty whether they would allow slavery within each territory.

    -South threatend to secede if Lincoln was elected
    -Lincoln was elected and south did secede
    -South was now called Confederate States Of America
    -Jefferson Davis was elected as South's president
