  • Introduction of the Jumbo Jet

    The first flight took place on February the 9th 1969 and the 747 was certified in December of that year. It was the first aircraft of its kind and significantly larger than any aircraft that had been created previously. It was a large wide bodied aircraft with two rows of seating and four engines.The aircraft had two classes and had a capacity of 524 passengers. This aircraft affected the travel and tourism industry significantly.
  • Launch of Ryanair

    Ryanair is known for being an Irish low cost airline that was founded in 1984 by Toby Ryan. It has grown to be one of the largest and busiest airlines in Europe operating over 1,800 flights daily. They offer affordable fares and a no frills service that makes air travel more accessible to a wider range of people therefore encouraging people to explore different destinations.
  • The opening of the Channel Tunnel.

    The channel tunnel is a 50 km long tunnel running from England to France you can board this tunnel at London St Pancras station and is the longest tunnel in the world. The construction of the tunnel took six years and involved collaboration between Europe and France and in total it consists of three tunnels. High Speed Eurostar trains operate throughout the Channel tunnel.
  • Boxing day Tsunami

    The Boxing day Tsunami was a tragic incident that killed over 275,000 people across four different countries it destroyed everything in its path including 141000 houses and buildings. The tsunami was caused by a powerful earthquake that was along the Indonesian islands of Sumatra. The tsunami reached up to 167 ft and flooded up to three miles of land and is also known to be one of the most deadly tsunamis in history. Sadly it left 400 cases of bodies being unidentified that are still missing.
  • Covid Pandemic

    Covid 19 caused by a coronavirus which was first identified in December 2019 the virus primarily spreads through droplets when people cough or sneeze. This virus caused lock downs to be put in place by the government to restrict movement and social interactions to limit the spread of the virus.
