Brown vs. Board of Education
The US Supreme Court ruled the separate but equal doctrine unconstitutional. This overturned the Supreme Court case Plessy vs Ferguson which allowed state-sponsored segregation, insofar as it applied to public education. This ruling paved the way for integration and was a major victory of the civil rights movement. -
Rosa Goes to Jail
Rosa Parks was arrested for disobeying an Alabama law that required blacks to sit at the back of the bus. Nine African american students were blocked from integrating a central high school in Arkansas. President Eisenhower sent national guards to the school to protect and intervene on the 9 students behalf. JFK for President
John F Kennedy won the 1960 election by being a moderate supporter. He endorsed sit ins and also called Coretta Scott King and his brother arranges for his release on bail; King is released a day later. The media displayed Kennedy as a senator with a heart. -
24th ammendment
The House passed the 24th Amendment, outlawing the poll tax as a voting requirement in federal elections, by a vote of 295 to 86. Five southern states were directly affected by thhe outlawin of pol taxes tthat were a disadvantage to blacks; Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas. -

13 day confrintation between the United States and the Soviet Union over Soviet missles stationed in Cuba. It resulted in the withdrawl of Soviets nukes from Cuba, withdrawl of American nues from Turkey, and an agreement that the US would never invade Cuba. -
March on Washington
20,500 Americans gathered in Washington to rally the political and social freedom African Americans longed for. This march was key point in the fight for civil rights. -
Kennedy's Assasination
Gunfire from Texas School Book Depository struck the President as he entered Main St of downtown Dallas. Govenor Connaly was also hit in the chest. At 1:00 p.m. John F. Kennedy was pronounced dead, and at 2:38 Johnson was sworn in to presidency. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
This act ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. The act fuled the civil rights movement even more. It protected the basic rights of minorities. -
MLK Assassination
King stood on the second-floor balcony of the Lorraine Motel, where he and friends were staying, when a sniper’s bullet struck him in the neck. He was pronounced dead about an hour later. His death caused anger amongst many of his followers. -
Apollo 11
This was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It carried Commander Neil Alden Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Eugene 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr. On July 20, 1969 Armstrong and Alden were the first men on the moon.
