The British tried to check an american ship for British dissenters but the americans refused. The british ship then opened fire on the americans causing an uproar in the states. -

Jefferson passes the Embargo act in an attempt to hurt Britian fron trading with the U.S however, it backfires and hurts american business. -

As tension grew between britian and the U.S. and Britain some political leaders known as the "War Hawks" put political pressure on the U.S to start a war between them and Britain. -
