Start of soviet union
The Soviet Union came into existence on December 29-30 1922 when representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Belorussia and the Transcaucasia Federation agreed to and then signed the Treaty of the Soviet Union. -
The Treaty of Versailles
The treaty of versailles was signed to end WWI. This treaty blamed Germany for the starting the war and this made Germany mad. Vittorio Orlando, David Lloyd George, Georges Clemenceau and Woodrow Wilson was the four people that signed the treaty. -
The Nazi party began
Adolf Hitler left school at the age of sixteen and went to Vienna where he hoped to enter the Academy and become a painter. His application to enter the academy was rejected when he was 17 years old and a year later his mother died from cancer. His father had died four years earlier and with no relatives that wanted to support him Adolf Hitler found himself living rough on the streets of Vienna. He became interested in politics. -

The first League of Nations meeting
The League of Nations, the result of the Paris Peace Conference in 1919-1920, was an international organization. The League of Nations did not have an army to respond to threats. Benito Mussolini stated: "The League is very well when sparrows shout, but no good at all when eagles fall out." Later, in 1930, countries such as Germany, Japan, Italy, and Spain withdrew from the league because it was not serving its original purpose to prevent future conflict. -
US depression
In October 1929 the stock market crashed, wiping out 40 percent of the paper values of common stock. Business closed their doors, factories shut down and banks failed. Farm income fell about 50 percent. By 1932 about one out of every four Americans was unemployed -
Stalin gains power
On April 3, 1922, Joseph Stalin took over control of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and by 1927, he had absolute power over the USSR and was its unquestioned ruler. -
Hitler becomes dictator
By January 1933, Hitler and the Nazi party controlled Germany. Hitler became a dictator, a leader with complete control. The Nazis punished all people who were against who were against their rule. They outlawed all other political parties. People who opposed the new regime were often murdered. -
Britain rearms and reassures Poland
Britain had begun re-arming and a highly secret radar early warning system was installed along the east coast. Conscription was introduced and assurances were given to Poland, who was being threatened by the Fuhrer. -

Germany and Italy signed what they called the Treaty of Friendship, Thus making them allies. -

The Enabling Act gave Hitler power to make laws without consulting the Reichstag for a period of four years. Hitler started to become dictator, He banned trade unions and all other political parties, the Nazis took control of all local government and Germany withdrew from the League of Nations. When President Hindenburg died in August 1934 Hitler combined the position of Chancellor and President and made himself Fuhrer of Germany. -

Britain and France declared war on Germany. Neville Chamberlain broadcast the announcement that the country was at war.
