Words could be learned and understood simply by opening a book and reading about it. This also most likely increased literature rates. -

The telegraph was invented in 1774 by Georges Louis Lesage. This was significant because it increased long-distance communication and made information able to be spread quickly. -
Flush Toilet
The flush toilet was invented in 1775 by Alexander Cummings. This invention was revolutionary because it helped to reduce the rate of disease caused by fecal matter. This may not seem like a huge deal until you look at what people did before this. Before this toilet many people threw their waste in the streets and used other unsavory methods to dispose of their waste. -

In 1784, Joseph Bramah invented the safety lock. This invention helped people to protect their valuables and themselves. -
Smallpox Vaccine
In 1796, Edward Jenner invented a smallpox vaccination. This vaccine was completely revolutionary. It helped to prevent many from contracting the disease or dying. We still use vaccines today, because they were so effective. -
