Walking Away From Parents for First Time- Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
When Joe was two years old, he began walking much more on his own. While learning to walk independently, he became much more independent. Becoming more exploratory by walking away from his parents he entered Ericksons second stage of development- Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt. This stage leads to the development of will and personal independence. -
Excelling at Athletics- Industry vs. Inferiority
Joe has begun to excel at athletics, making him stand out from the crowd, in a good way. This success in the athletic field has boosted Joe's social standing among friends. In Erickson's fourth stage, Industry vs. Inferiority, while Joe is excelling, he is feeling competent in his actions and feeling welcomes and accepted by his peers. -
Joe gets Married- Intimacy vs. Isolation
Joe decided to get married to Laurie. While committing to spend the rest of their lives together, they are blending their lives and identities. While in Ericksons sixth stage, they are exploring Intimacy vs. Isolation. This is the decision to become emotionally bonded to another person, or to remain alone.
