    Peace of Augsburg

    Peace treaty between Charles V Holy Roman Empire and Schmalkaldic League. This treaty ended the fighting in Germany between the Lutherans and Roman Catholics. It allowed each prince of each state the ability to choose which denomination it wanted.

    French Wars of Religion

    War between the Catholics and Protestants in France. Catherine de Medici was the ruler at the time due to King Charles being a kid. She did not show enough support towards the Catholics which angered them. A total of 8 Wars were fought.

    Bartholomew Day Massacre

    Day of assassinations done by the Roman Catholics. This was a part of the French Wars of Religion. The Catholics directed it towards the Protestants. It was an attempted assassination of the Protestants leader.
  • Edicts of Nantes

    This was a document signed by King Henry IV of France. This allowed the Protestants to have religious freedoms in France. France was mainly Catholics but this helped bring unity to the country. Helped end the French Wars of Religion.

    A war throughout central Europe where more than 8 million people died. Fought between protestants and Catholics. It ended in a peace treaty. A lot of it was fought between Germany.
  • Treaty of Westphalia

    2 treaties that ended the 30 year war. The Holy Roman empire was brokens this allowed Germany to choose their religion. This also allowed countries to gain independence.
